Urban Rigger is a brand new concept for student housing in Copenhagen with 60 homes located on a barge in the Copenhagen Canal on Refshaleøen in Copenhagen. It may not sound flashy, but the concept is fantastic and creates a unique and different space in the city. In other words, we’re talking about floating housing for students.
A single Urban Rigger consists of 12 apartments all with a bedroom, kitchen and bathroom, while some have access to a balcony or terrace directly on the water. There are two different home types, one of which is 30 square meters and perfect for couples. The second home type is 23 square meters and also comes with a kitchen and bathroom.
Naturally, every floating Urban Rigger has a stunning view that can be enjoyed on the rooftop. There is also a basement (below sea level!) and a large lounge with kitchen.
Urban Rigger is committed to reducing its carbon footprint. In particular, the location is utilized by using the seawater to heat the homes. A special pump heats the water and circulates it between the different buildings. In addition, solar cells have also been installed on the roofs.
Rent
Rent starts from 7,250 kr. depending on size and location (Jan, 2022). The cheapest homes have additional costs of DKK 675 per month.

How to apply
To be eligible to apply for student housing at Urban Rigger, you must be a student (SU-eligible, trainee or apprentice) and preferably have at least one year left of your education. You apply by filling out an application form on their website (see link below).
You must also be studying in the Copenhagen area, including these cities: Køge, Roskilde, Ballerup, Lyngby and Hillerød.
Location
Fantastic location in the Copenhagen canal by Refshaleøen. It’s a short walk to the famous street food market at Reffen. The Opera is also close by, and the new Inderhavnsbroen bridge makes the cycling distance to Strøget, Nyhavn and inner Copenhagen quite short.
